Bereavement Practioner

Hello, I’m Caroline and I would like to tell you a little bit about me and how my interest in working with bereavement has developed into such a passion. I am a BACP registered counsellor, and I am a member of their Children, Young People & Families division. I have always enjoyed listening to people and understanding more about what makes them tick. This led to me studying a degree, and then a Master's, in Psychology as well as Postgraduate Diploma’s in Child Development and Humanistic Counselling. I have worked in schools for many years in a number of roles supporting children with a range of additional needs. While doing this work I found that working with families and children together really improved outcomes for the children and gave me great job satisfaction. Alongside this work I have been fortunate in gaining a real sense of purpose by volunteering for two national bereavement charities supporting children and adults individually and in groups. During this time I have seen the huge benefits bereavement support can provide. Often the simplest things can make the biggest difference including learning more about the grieving process, and the vast range of ways grief can have an impact on us, as well as having the loss witnessed and validated. My own preferred grief model is that of Continuing Bonds (Klass, Silverman and Nickman, 1996) which takes the view that “death ends a life and not a relationship” and considers ways in which we can take our relationship with a deceased loved one forward with us throughout our life.

Hello, I’m Claudia and I am an experienced Bereavement Practitioner who works with both individuals and groups. I have extensive experience of working with a wide variety of bereavements, including sudden and traumatic loss, bereavement through suicide, multiple losses and loss of an adult child. My work includes supporting neurodiverse individuals. I gained my degree in Psychology in 2020 and completed my Post-Graduate diploma in Mental Health Sciences in 2023. I am a graduate member of the British Psychological Society. I believe bereavement support can be transformative, taking people from a place of pain and overwhelm to one of clarity and calm. Grief deserves great compassion, and my work, both individually and with Caroline, focuses on providing a warm and compassionate space for clients to express their grief. Your grief matters, and the life of the person who has died, matters. I hope that we can support you through your most difficult time, please do get in touch.

"It's difficult to find words to express my deep gratitude for your loving support - for your intuitive, wise, perceptive & skilful approach" - I.A.

Why Claudia and Caroline?

Working together facilitating bereavement support groups, we found that we had complementary strengths and a shared drive and commitment for supporting bereaved people. We continue to develop our practice, and further our training and experience, together and separately. We have a shared background in psychology which has aided our understanding of grief from an evolutionary, interpersonal and neurobiological perspective and have a shared belief in the value of compassion in supporting those who are grieving. Our passion and commitment to this work developed from our own personal bereavement experiences.
